PRESS RELEASE NO.15 TWO GREEKS TAKE OVER AFTER THE FIRST RACE OF THE RACEBOARD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS. PACO WIRZ WAS THE FIRST OF THE ITALIANS AND ALSO IN THE EUROPEAN MASTERS. PALERMO – 17TH OF MAY - With a wind that was blowing from a North – East direction with an intensity of 10-12 knots the first two races of the Raceboard World Championships went under way, the races were organized by the Albaria’s Windsurfing Club. More than fifty athletes enroled in the race, representing four continents, and sixteen athletes more than the last world championships held in Mexico in december. The Mistral One Design, the olympic table, was used by a majority of the athletes in the race. At the end of the two races held two greeks take the lead, gorge Fragos who used a raceboard and Ioannis Chrysochoy who used a mistral, coming first and second place, behind them was Alexander Baronjan. The first of the Italians was Paco Wirz on a raceboard table, in sixth position followed by Alessandro Alberti from the Clubino del Mare, using a less performing mistral table. In 12th position Riccardo Giordano, who didin’t feel at ease with the wind. He said “ i’m a bit tired from the olympic selections which are just finished and then there wasn’t enough wind for me today” In the European Masters Championships classifications Paco Wirz is ahead of Jean Asia from France and Paul Leoni from Britain. Between the women Flavia Tartaglini from Lazio came in 11th, followed by Shaw from Britain and Vidal from France. Press Office
