PRESS RELEASE NO:18

NOT MUCH WIND IN THE SECOND DAY OF RACES.  FRAGOS FROM GREECE IN THE LEAD OF THE WORLD RACEBOARDING CHAMPIONSHIPS, WHILE FRANCE IN GREECE IN THE LEAD FOR THE ITALIAN NATIONS CUP

PALERMO 18TH OF MAY – Only two races were held today at the World Raceboarding Championships in Mondello, organized by the Albaria Windsurfing Club.

The wind wasn’t very strong, around about 6 knots coming from a North East direction during the first race and getting weaker especially in the second race.

George Fragos from greece takes the lead with Beudou and Alessandro Alberti behind him, Alessandro wears the clubino del mare colours and was the first of the Italians to come in.

The two Albaria athletes came in fifth and sixth, Ricardo Belli dell’ Isca and Marco Casagrande, Riccardo Giordano was not at ease once again with the wind and came in at 10th position.

The races changed the results in the Nations Cup, moving Italy ahead with 37 points, thanks to the work done by Alberti and Belli dell’ Isca.

France is in second place with Greece in third.

The first races at sea saw George Fragos escaping with a battle behind his back from Beudou from France, then Baronjan from Germany and the young polish boy Maksmilian who was left behind the group after the fourth bouy.  Behind this first group was Alberti, while Paco Wirz and Ioannis Chrysochoy remained on the mainland.

The second race was definitely a lot harder for the athletes as the wind got weaker, the athletes really had to push themselves.  Fragos and Chrysochoy were in the lead followed by Belli dell’Isca , Wirz and Alberti, who after coming fourth in the first race was able to close in behind the the two greeks and come in at third place.

The women are also fighting for the World Raceboarding Championships, lead by Lise Vidal from France, with Bryony Shaw and Flavia Tartaglini following behind.

Paul Leoni is so far leading in the results which could classify him in the assignment of the European Masters Title,  following Leoni there is Asia from  France and the Italian Paco Wirz.

Tomorrow at 12.00 noon all athletes will be in the water, whilst  at 5.30pm the “Windsurfers Legend Race” will begin with Matt Schweitzer and Mike Waltze among the stars in the race.
