RELEASE NO. 29
THE WORLD
RACBOARDING TITLE GOES TO GEORGE FRAGOS.
THE SUCCESS OF THE WOMANS FINAL GOES TO BRYONY SHAW.
WIRZ, OUT OF THE EUROPEAN
MASTERS, BUT WINS THE WINDSURFER LEGEND RACE.
TOMORROW THE NATIONAL RACE BEGINS
PALERMO- 21ST OF MAY- It finished with one race being held
rather than the two that were planned, the victory of George Fragos from
Greece was announced the World Raceboarding Champion, the race was
organized by the Albaria Windsurfing Club.
The light wind that was blowing all of a sudden stops, forcing the jury to
begin the the first and only race a little before 4.00pm, the time limit
to start the race.
Fragos has lead the races from the
first day, he wins this ninth race and can graduate as the world
Raceboarding Champion with his FANATIC table.
Behind him came in Chrysochoy also from Greece, the first of the athletes
using the Mistral table, this table has been chosen by a majority of the
athletes competing in this years world championships with 49 out of 63 of
those enroled.
On the third step of the podium is the frenchman Nicolas Beudou, No.16 of
the ISAF ranking, followed by Alessandro Alberti in fourth place and first
among the Italians. Always first of the Italians the athlete from Palermo
proved he could count on being in good shape, seeing as these races were
undertaken in a really light wind they requested great effort from the
athletes in keeping up a pace which was not easy.
Riccard Giordano, the olympic competetitor came in at 15th
place, he never felt at ease in any of the races with the poor wind
conditions.
The British
girl Bryony Shaw came in with first place in the Womens World Title with
only two advantage points against second place winner Lise Vidal from
France. In third third place
Flavia Tartaglini was good at keeping Allison Shreeve behind her. Up until
January Allison was in the lists for a place in the Olympics.
Paco Wirz closed the World
Championships in 16th position ahead of all the other masters,
he doesn’t have a place on the podium because of the seperate
classification that is calcolated on only 18 of the athletes enroled in
this category and gave the award to Paul Leone from Britain. In second
place the Italian Giuseppe Castelli, followed by the Frenchman Asia. Wirz
came in at fourth place.
In the
Nation cup Greece is in lead with Italy taking second place and France
third.
The Windsurfer Legend Race finished today with Paco Wirz winning in first
place against Luca Frascari. Entertainment
and a lot of fun have made this competition unique, there were one against
one races from the best windsurfers from the past such as Mike Waltze and
Manuela Maxia the woman who made a lot of men tremble in the early 1980s.
From the races held yesterday Paco Wirz’s name went to join those of the
finalists Waltze, Maxia and Frascari.
In the semi-final the Lauria’s athlete over took Maxia while Frascari
got the better of Waltze.
An interesting last race from the three that were held, in the first it
was Frascari who won, leaving Wirz to catch up and win the last two of the
races.
This morning the enrolement procedure went ahead for the national Mistral
and Aloha race to be held tomorrow at 12.00 noon.
