STUDENTS MATCHES IN MONDELLO OPEN THE BEACH VOLLEY COMPETITIONS
More than 200 athletes have taken part in the Students Beach Volley Tournament in Mondello

With the enthusiasm from hundreds of students from high schools in and around Palermo the students Beach Volley opened today in Mondello, organized by Palermo’s physical education department, and the introduction of the Proseries Beach Volley International Tour which will begin on the 19th of May.
Three days of matches organized with the coordination by Pietro Scaduto a school teacher and the collaboration of Polisportiva Futura, from the patronage of the Libertas and the technical direction from Ario De Giovanni, during these three days 130 couples of students will compete on the 4 courts set up on the beach beside the main beach volley court. On the first day therre were 70 high scool teams (40 boys and 30 girls) and half of these qualified for the finals, while tomorrow there will be 60 teams from prep-high schools who will play (30 boys and 30 girls). The matches will be carried out in one set of 18 points, the players who lose will have a chance to gain a place in a second game against losers.
The finals will be on the Friday the 13th of May and the two winning couples will win as an attempt at parasailing in one of the extreme sports inserted in the World Festival program.
Piero Scaduto seemed to be very pleased of the fact that this tounament is been run for the second year, he said “ this is an important occasion given to young people to socialize and carry out a sport such as beach volley, and then this year there has been an increase in particiapants which has doubled from last year.”
Roberto Mormino president from the FIPAV provincial committee (Italian Beach Volley Federation) has said he is very pleased with the results made. He said “we really appreciate what is happening during these days on the beach at Mondello, the relationship between the schools and the federation has grown stronger from this collaboration. The Federation is giving support to the Polisportiva Futura in organizing the students tournament which will officially open up the beach volley season in the summer of 2005”.
