MONDELLO OPENS ITS BEACH VOLLEY SEASON
WITH THE PROSERIES TOURNAMENT AT THE WORLD FESTIVAL ON THE BEACH
Tonight the lights will be switched on for the beach volley at the World
Festival on the Beach, the event that will animate Mondello’s beach with
sport, culture and performances up until Sunday. The pro-series tour
2006 has been inserted once again amongst the splendid scenery of
Mondello, to then follow on to the best locations in the Mediterranean
during the summer season.
It begins with a spectacular evening session in the central court that
will see the first male athletes play, made up of some excellent players,
who have come to Mondello from all across the world to compete for the
“King of the Beach “ title, that will be given for who wins in the
final, individually drafted, for a tournament that doesn’t schedule
fixed pairs. A spectacular formula, that for years has characterised the
World Festival on the Beach and makes every single player stand out
rather than give attention to the pairs of players. Amongst other prizes
to be given is that of the best player – player, to who is the most
spectacular, which will be given at the end of the competition.
This editions star of the Pro-series Tournament at the World Festival on
the Beach will be the Spanish guy Fabio Diez, another high level Olympic
athlete after the participation from the Brazilian Paulao, winner with
his team mate Carvalho also Brazilian in the last edition.
Diez, a Spanish multi-champion and veteran of the Pro-series circuit,
boasts fifth place in the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, he will be the
favourite of the tournament, but the outsiders won’t be lacking, such as
the Swiss athlete Bernhard Vesti and the little platoon of Italians,
formed by ex European champion and Italian multi-champion Piero Antonini
and Roberto Buragina, protagonists of the Pro-series circuit.
The opening males match with be an Italian-Venezuelan pair Buragina/Cartaya
and from the Slovenian Lah and the Swiss Tschudi. It will be the opening
of the first of four days of performances on the beach, which will
conclude with the finals on Sunday the 21st of May.
