MORE THAN 400 STUDENTS ON THE BEACH FOR THE BEACH VOLLEY TOURNAMENT
TOMORROW IN MONDELLO THE MOTH, THE BOAT THAT FLIES ON THE WATER

The beach was turned into one big beach volley area today in Mondello. There were 9 courts set up on the beach, with more than 400 students in the students tournament, which for the second year running has brought an extraordinary amount of participants. A good chance for students from the prep-high and high schools to approach this sport that offers great excitement a great show, with the satisfaction of playing in the central court for the two best teams who go through to the finals. After the students tournament finishes on Friday the 18th of May the 5 Nations tournament will take place, where international stars are expected to take part. It will be a battle between Alvarez and Munder from Cuba, who will take on the two Brazilians Paulao and Coelho de Brito. Amongst the European players there will be the greeks Michaelopoulos and Xenakis, the Swiss Setter and Weingart, and the Italian players Fabio Galli and Riccardo Fenili.

Tomorrow Manuel Vaccari is due to arrive in Mondello, and will have with him one of this years new ideas of the 22nd edition of the World Festival on The Beach. During the Festival Vaccari will demonstrate on a Moth in Mondello’s waters, giving everyone a chance to get to know and to see this spectacular boat in action, which has represented a new frontier to the sailing world for a few years now.
The International Moths are boats, with a butterflies name, and are very quick and move in a frenzy, giving the skippers and the spectators a sensation of excitement. They are just 30 centimetres wide and over 3 meters long, they weigh 30kg, and are made with futuristic methods using complex materials and carbon.
The new fast drifts from the Moth International Class, a class recognised by ISAF, assigned as the sailing acrobatics, have already reached an evolutionary stage. These boats literally fly on the water with just 6 to seven metres of wind and reach incredible speeds, giving a rush of adrenaline for who sail them. There has been an increase of the number of people keen to use a moth, attracted by it speed and by the way you can sail flying on the water, in Europe in the past few years it has become more widespread.
