THE ENTHUSIASM EXPLODES FROM THE SPECTATORS IN THE
CENTRAL COURT AT THE BEACH VOLLEY TOURNAMENT. TOMORROW THE FINALS WILL
BE HELD
THE CATAMARAN CLASS A NATIONAL RACE BEGINS TOMORROW
The 5 Nations Beach Volley Tournament continues at the World Festival on
the Beach with a large amount of spectators. The grandstand of the
central court was too small this year to hold all the spectators who
wanted to watch the tournament. It was also interesting to see the
number of students and the quality of playing amongst the students
tournament which finished yesterday.
The 5 Nations tournament which grants the Mondello Cup 2007, is
characterised by the balance of the teams who participate, The Cubans
predicted as the favourites to win found themselves with some very good
opponents, the Italian team Galli/Fenili is heading towards a place in
the finals which will be held tomorrow in the central court in Mondello.
The Italians finished today their matches and will need to wait until
tomorrow for the other results from the last two matches to see if they
can play in the finals. The last matches are scheduled tomorrow morning,
whilst the finals for third place and the final match will begin at
14:00.
Two races were held today in the Catamaran Class A, the first day of
races valid for a place in the European Championships 2007. In
Mondello’s gulf there were 13 boats in all, coming from all different
regions of Italy. The wind was blowing in a North, North Eastern
direction, blowing at 6-7 knots, a light wind in the first race that
could be hardly felt in the second. The winner of the first race was
Manuel Vaccari del C.V. Orta from Piemonte with Luigi Blancato del C.V.
Ortigia, from Siracusa coming in second. Third place went to Gaetano
Pennino from Fides Time Palermo, the only athlete from Palermo in the
race. And fourth place for the president of the Class A Marco Gaeti (A.V.
Bracciano).
The second race held with a lighter wind went to Roberto Casadei of C.V.
Cesenatico. A second place again for Luigi Blancato, while the winner of
the first race, Manuel Vaccari, took third place.
The general results see Manuel Vaccari in the lead, who won yesterday in
the long distance race from Mondello – Punta Priolo – Mondello. Vaccari
has also the same amount of points as Luigi Blancato, but thanks to a
partial victory takes first place. Gaetano Pennino, third, thanks to a
third and sixth place. Tomorrow will be the last day of the Catamaran
Class A National races.
