Windsurf / Press Release n.7 30 April 2005
XX Edition World Festival On The Beach
Palermo Mondello 11-22 May 2005
WAITING FOR MONDELLO'S WORLD CUP, IVAN PASTOR AND ANTONIA
FREY WIN THE HYERES REGATTA. BEST ITALIANS ARE RICCARDO GIORDANO AND
FLAVIA TARTAGLINI
With only five knots wind the races of the
Hyeres pre-Olympic couldn’t take place the last day.
So, many classes of the contest, like mistral one, had to put away
equipment at the time limit and celebrate winners with the results of the
day before, acquired as definitive.
Therefore, the perseverance of these days gave the prize to the chasers
Ivan Pastor and Antonia Frey, who, thanks to the gap of the day before,
managed to reach the top of the respective classification and, at the end,
the entire prize.
Among men, Piotr Myszka from Poland and the French Quentin Henry complete
the podium, leaving away Fabrice Hassen, last year winner and leader of
most of the race.
For the Italians the Hyeres pre-Olympic was the one of Riccardo Giordano,
the experienced athlete of Albaria placed 20°, strongly keeping his place,
even when the wind weakened last days, preceding the other veteran of
Italian mistral, Paco Wirz (Lauria), placed 29°.
A bit far away the other Italians: Andrea Beverino (Aeronautica Militare)
34°, Dario Baffetti (Vela club Fregene) 37° Riccardo Belli dell’Isca (Albaria)
39°, Federico Esposito (LNI Piombino) 42° and Fabian Heidegger (AV Caldaro)
46°.
About women, behind the greek-german winner Antonia Frey, the 2° place
went to the german Amelie Lux and the 3° to the ex-record-holder Olga
Maslivets from Ukraine
On the whole, good results for the two Italian girls competing, 7° place
for Flavia Tartaglini (Guardia di Finanza) from Lazio, Laura Linares (SC
Marsala) from Sicily only 19° but winner of two competitions of the fourth
day.
Closing the parenthesis of Hyeres, the rendezvous with many of the
strongest interpreters of the mistral class already engaged in France, is
now with the World Championship that are going to take place in Mondello
(Palermo) from 13 to 20 May.
